Closing in on 2016

It's that time of year for reflections, goals and do-overs. It's a good time to stop and sum up another year. A nasty habit of mine leaves me longing for future days and ignoring the now moments in between. It's so easy to intend to live in the moment, but getting to the moment is something else altogether.

I was thinking about this particular neglected blog of mine, and the overall importance I place on daily writing and routine when teaching college students. Perhaps this particular habit would be useful to me as well.

Could I make it 365 days in 2016 with a daily post of some kind? And what would my theme be? Life in general? Motherhood? The art of telling a story? Personal journals? Personal rants?

Cassell Cents

As many of our friends know, Gene and I failed personal finance 101. We've taken Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University class four times. Yep. And, the "gazelle-like intensity" faded away before our mountain of debt did each time.

But, after months of prayer, I finally got around to checking out a company called Clear Point Financial Counseling more than two years ago after a friend recommended it to us. I was stunned at how many months of such a high payment that it would take. But I also knew we had to do it.

Our water heater broke that first year and we also had car problems spring up. It was awful and stressful. Two longtime friends saved Christmas for our kids that year (hugs D.S. and R.R.).

As I was running errands last week and appreciating how far we've come, I really did have one of those DUH! moments when I saw how much God has truly walked with us. HE is the one who has pulled those strings. He has really made the journey feel like it might really have an end.

Christmas was good this year, and our jobs offered bonuses. We have wanted to loft the boys' beds forever, and we got that done. In my excitement, I probably did not make the wisest of choices because we still have to eat the rest of the month.

But you know, my God sees ME and he loves ME, even when I miss the mark. And, my awesome heavenly dad even sent a buyer for the old bunk/futon bed, which means we can shop modestly without cutting into savings. The creator of the universe cares this much about each and every one of us. Amen.

Revelation 3:20 - Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
